Coming Mar 3: Myra Flynn, John Hampson
Join us on Wednesday, March 3 for two extraordinary acoustic artists and a full two hours of top live music. Each hour set will give you just the right dose of the uniqueness of the artist’s distinct style and character. All in the intimate setting that has made Acoustic Long Island a highly sought-after venue for both artists and audience members alike. Here’s more about the talent being featured:
Myra Flynn - A singer/songwriter based in Burlington, Flynn has been performing throughout New England and New York, riding a surge of interest generated by the release of her debut CD, Crooked Measures. The disc includes all original material and reflects a mature songwriter blending emotional lyrics with soulful vocals and homespun arrangements. The Barre-Montpelier (VT) Times Argus called Crooked Measures, “a joy to listen to,” and predicted, “Flynn will garner national attention like fellow Vermonters Phish and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have already done.” Flynn’s strong and introspective songwriting evokes such throwback influences as Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading, and Carly Simon, while her engaging stage presence and soulful vocals are often compared to the likes of Adele, Alicia Keys, and Erykah Baduh. This fall Flynn signed a six-month licensing agreement with CBS Broadcasting and CBS Records, and Vermont Public Radio showcased Flynn and her original composition “Miss Independence” in a segment on African-American songwriters. John Hampson – John will be performing a strong selection of tunes from his brand new solo album, “Shiny New Album” while not denying the audience “Absolutely (Story of a Girl)” – the song that made him famous – and “If I Am”, the second of his two top 40 hits as the lead singer of Nine Days (from their debut release “The Madding Crowd” (Epic/Sony) which has sold nearly a million copies worldwide). John Hampson first burst on to the scene as lead singer and songwriter for Nine Days, a rock/power pop band who hit Gold with “Absoluely (Story of a Girl)” in the early 2000′s and who still has popularity today. John has since pursued a solo career. His songs have been heard in many TV shows and Films and the hit song that made the band famous is still a modern rock radio staple. Recently, he had a hit with “The In Crowd” sung by Mitchell Musso for Hollywood/Disney Records (produced by Brian Malouf) as well. For more, go to www.myspace.com/johnhampson.
