Barnaby Bright – Brooklyn-based indie folk rock duo Barnaby Bright, have garnered high accolades for their lyrically captivating and impeccably balanced songwriting and sound. A belated note to tell you how much I enjoyed the Barnaby Bright show on the 4th. This duo fell onto my radar on summer day in 2011 while I was on way to a Miles to Dayton show that got rained out. Bright was playing in Stony Brook indoors so I headed over there not knowing anything about their music. It was a terrific live show but later that summer when I finally got around to playing their CD’s I realized what a treasure they really are.

They had taken a solid unique acoustic sound that I heard live and taken it to the next level. I was astonished that the CD’s not only brought back the good vibes of the live show I saw but went beyond. Thinking about it brings out the nerd in me, I think of Spock and Kirk in Star Trek II the Wrath of Khan where Spock tells Kirk, “he’s only thinking in 2 Dimensions (head on), we need to fight in 3 dimensions (up, down, left right etc).

As in Star Trek, Barnaby Bright has certainly added aural dimensions to their sound and the audience becomes “blown away” with the results…In a good way. My apologies to Ricardo Montalbán.

Of course all this makes Nathan Mr. Spock and Becky Lt. Saavik. David Dircks is our Star Fleet commander and we the audience are all one big happy fleet! Thank you for the great work and may Acoustic Long Island Live Long and Prosper!

Barnaby Bright is an easy, breezy, Saturday afternoon listen. I love their words and their music. It’s sweet stuff for the ears and for the soul.
