<itunes:summary>Kelly Flint - As the sultry voice for the trenchant songs of David Cantor in New York City-based cult faves Daversquo;s True Story, Kelly made five albums and was the toast of The New York Times, the Kennedy Center, and more. But it became time for her to spread her solo wings, or more appropriately, to Drive All Night. Thatrsquo;s the title of Flintrsquo;s first solo album, and what that albumrsquo;s about is the sum total of the places she has been. In the more complex shapes that Flintrsquo;s lyrics conjure in the mindrsquo;s eye, and the subtle harmonic twists that keep Drive All Night from becoming strictly an ldquo;Americanardquo; album, her coming of age in New York City is apparent. Her involvement in the jazzy sophistication of Daversquo;s True Story, her immersion in the complicated, urgent, shades-of-gray sensibility that is the experiential dividend of New York life itrsquo;s all in this striking new batch of songs. Sometimes the bite is just under the surface, and sometimes it snaps up to nab a piece of your heart. For more, go to www.myspace.com/kellyflint.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Telly - Having no formal musical education to speak of or family member with an old guitar to pass down, singer/songwriter telly has been finding his way around the NY music scene through trial and lots of error. Numerous stints as the uncertain frontman of uncertain bands that never made it out of the basement frustrated him into going it alone. His style was born from the bars and beach parties he's been performing at since college. Whether he's performing his poppy ballads or signature blend of rock, blues and funk as a soloist or with bassist Aram Chekijian and drummer Chris Hadjopoulos, a telly show is always an experience. A written song might segue-way into a freestyle jam or an unexpected cover. There are songs to make you cry and songs to make you think, songs to make you laugh and songs to make you sing. And while his heartfelt lyrics often address the fears and struggles that we associate with change, even his deepest songs share with the rest a common theme of genuine optimism and appreciation for the undpredictable ride of life. <itunes:summary>Rosi Golan - Rosi Golan is an Israeli born singer songwriter who has made many stops in her travels, including Germany, Paris, and finally ending up in Los Angeles at the age of nine, where she grew up. During her travels, she not only managed to hone her infectiously melodic songwriting, but also learned to speak three languages fluently: French, Hebrew and English. Rosi is indeed a long way from home, but certainly in the right place to showcase her unique talent for rich, dark melodies and a voice that not only draws you in, but still haunts you the next day. In the past few years, Rosi has worked with a number of acclaimed writers and producers from all over the world, including Jeff Cohen, Boots, Richard Cuason, Nate Campany, Tim Gordine, Richard Lobb, Pete Gordeno, Marc Swersky, Robert Conley, etc. But its her continuing collaboration with singer/songwriter Jamie Hartman (Ben's Brother) that has yielded numerous songs, including the single ldquo;Let Me Outrdquo;, from Benrsquo;s Brother debut CD (Relentless/EMI/Virgin). The song was recently featured on an episode of ldquo;Greyrsquo;s Anatomyrdquo;. Rosi was recently mentioned in Billboard Magazine. She was the winner of the first ASCAP Robert Allen Award for songwriting excellence, for which she performed at Lincoln Center. Finally settled in New York, Rosi has already kick-started the momentum that launches careers. For more, go to www.myspace.com/rosigolan.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Chris Trapper LIVE at ALI, May 6 2009. The trick to the irresistibly organic, pure pop sound is that the music, and even the lead singer, take a back seat to the real star; the songs. As the principal songwriter and singer for nationally acclaimed alt-rock trio The Push Stars, Chris Trapper is equally sure-footed in his solo career. Chris writes, records and tours in support of his solo CDrsquo;s. ldquo;Trapper sounds like the 21st-century young popster he is.rdquo; - The Washington Post. ldquo;Chris Trapper plays unassuming pop rock with a touch of Big Star soul...rdquo; - The Chicago Reader. His words and music can best be described as an interesting blend of 1950rsquo;s pop, 1990rsquo;s rock and old-timey jazz with the ever-present under story of Chrisrsquo; distinctive baritenor. Itrsquo;s intricate power-pop with a compelling knack for telling everyday stories. For more, go to www.myspace.com/christrapper.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Colin McGrath - Colin McGrath began performing original songs when he was 18 while busking across Europe. He studied music at Oberlin College in Ohio, but the Irish, bluegrass, funk and improv bands he played with fueled his creativity as much or more than the classical music that he studied. After college, at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, McGrath became inspired by a straightforward and honest style of modern folk. He released his first, self-titled folk album while living in San Francisco. McGrath is as at home composing instrumental music as he is writing songs. He was musical director of the Killing My Lobster Orchestra in San Francisco when he released ldquo;Allegro Con Chutzpah, rdquo; an album of quirky and comical instrumentals influenced by Latin, Klezmer and classical music. Since relocating to his native New York City, McGrathrsquo;s music has been heard in theaters, concert halls, in documentaries (including a Bill Moyers film) and in ads on your TV. He has received commissions to write chamber pieces for The Central Park Brass, The New York Philharmonic TA Ensemble, and The Bloomingdale School of Music. He can also be heard singing and playing guitar, dobro and harmonica with his bluegrass band Speedrack. At last, with ldquo;Window Seat, rdquo; Colin McGrath returns to an old love, songwriting, but with the background of an orchestrator and composer, influenced by years of music making. <itunes:summary>Amy Crawford and the Electric - After slugging it out in New York City jazz clubs for a few years, Amy Crawford decided to revisit the music of her childhood - The Beatles; Beach Boys; Crosby, Stills, Nash #38; Young; Sly #38; The Family Stone; Rickie Lee Jones; and James Taylor.nbsp; While in New York, Amy expanded her musical community to include filmmakers (see Lucas McNelly's "Gravida" [2007] featured in the NOW Film Festival) and choreographers. In 2007 she helped coach the Brooklyn Youth Chorus' performance at Elton John's sold out Madison Square Garden 60th Birthday Celebration and also helped the chorus prepare parts for a guest spot on Talib Kweli's new album, "Eardrum" and for Alicia Keys' appearance on a Sesame Street holiday special, among other events. 2008 has been a great year for Amy: she placed 3rd in the renowned Shure/Montreux Jazz Festival's international Jazz Vocal competition in Switzerland; spent time on the road opening sold-out shows for the Grammy-winnng band Ozomatli, Mike Gordon, Balkan Beat Box and Dengue Fever with DeLeon; recorded on DeLeon's self-titled record for the JDUB label; and is putting the finishing touches on her highly-anticipated EP with her band, Amy #38; The Electric. She is also a finalist in the 2008 Williamsburg Live Songwriter Competititon and will make her NY Songwriters Circle debut in December.nbsp; Her sound is undeniably catchy and upbeat, with a vintage sheen that makes Amy one of the freshest new songwriters on the scene. <itunes:summary>Stephanie Nilles - Stephanie Nilles is an independent musician constantly on the move. At 17, she was a finalist at the Young Concert Artists' International Competition. At 22, she had graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a BM in classical piano performance. These days, she's performing her own politically-influenced jazz/folk tunes, described by listeners as "Ella Fitzgerald on speed beating the @#%* out of Regina Spektor" and "Tom Waits on helium," in her adopted home base of New York City and out on the road in a hatchback with a Roland. She has performed at joints like Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, WFMT's "Live from Studio One," and the Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, and she has collaborated with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Joel Newton, and Christian Howes, in styles ranging from free improv to burlesque accompaniment. Stephanie's songs, sometimes "brutally honest," address issues ranging from drug busts in her Harlem neighborhood and feminism to the recent election and life on the road. "She is a poet without being pretentious about it; she is bluesy, jazzy, soulful (in her way), and lets her music pour out in such an organic way.nbsp; For more, go tonbsp;www.myspace.com/stephanienilles. <itunes:summary>Has it been a tough year or what? It seems everywhere you look, the news is dreadful. We started getting emails from people saying that Acoustic LI gave them a much needed break from the doom and gloom. One listener put it this way; "As the economy turns to the worst of times, Deepwells (Acoustic LI) offers people one of the few respites from that dismal news that assaults them everyday. This is why Hollywood movies are benefiting from all of the turmoil. People need to escape somewhere, even if it's just in their minds' eye. And so Deepwells provides a little oasis in the midst of an endless desert. Don't let the well run dry." So we figured there must be some positive news out there, and when we found it, we figured we'd share it with ya'll. To round out this mini podcast, you'll hear a tune from Long Island's master of unique observations, Lois Morton (www.LoisMorton.com). Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Patrick Thomas - Patrick Thomas refuses to believe that every song had already been written. Whether it rolls over intricate finger-picking or crashes against a wild strum there is still something that has yet to be said.nbsp; He knows that the key to a great new song is honesty, and with the Detroit-born singer-songwriter, there is no filter.nbsp; He's an original and proves it with each performance and every recording. This is most obvious on his new release Build Me A City. Patrick's unique word-style has been with him since his debut Ghost Town Radio, but it took years on the road with his band, The Patrick Thomas Theory to learn how to capture raw energy and convert it into a captivating live show. Now, after playing showcases at South by Southwest and CMJ or opening up for the likes of The Black Crowes and Journey, Patrick gathered vigor of his former band and focused it into ten songs chronicling his own venture from Motown to Brooklyn, NY where he now resides. Paste Magazine has placed Build Me A City in their Paste Recommends program for November of 2008. For more, go to www.myspace.com/patrickthomasmusic.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Pete and J - Pete Harper and Jason Blynn, are known to themselves, and in turn by others, affectionately but usually appropriately, as "Pete and J". Pete and J tour nationally, all over the US of A, and occasionally in the UK. Most of the time, Pete and J are a band consisting of 4 people (a bassist and drummer in addition to the Pete and the J). As you can see, they are based in New York City, where they flourish in the sweet exhaust and excitement of city life. They tour much of the year, however, so occasionally see both grass and trees. A few albums are out there, including Without A Band and Dressed for Conversation, both available in links above and below. ldquo;Pete and J are seasoned live performers, consummate entertainers, and offer a simple but unique twist that somehow bridges young and old, shy and wildhellip;rdquo; - Cheshire FM (during latest 15-show UK Tour) ldquo;Heartfelthellip;and movingrdquo; -nbsp; The Boston Globe. <itunes:summary>Return to the Dream - Each member of Return To The Dream is a seasoned performer in his or her own right, but have come together to create a cohesive and unique "Eclectic Acoustic" sound with their original music. Diane Garisto has toured as a vocalist with major recording artists such as Steely Dan and Laura Nyro and was fortunate to sing on Paul Simon's multi-platinum award-winning album, Graceland, and Billy Joel's evocative River of Dreams. Tom Griffith has worked with artists such as Marc Cohn, Ry Cooder, Fats Domino, and Dave Edmunds, and won several Clio and Cannes Silver Lion awards. Tom's first solo album, 40 Years Later, was just chosen as Newsday's number one Local CD of 2007. Martha Trachtenberg was a founding member of the Buffalo Gals, the first all-woman bluegrass band. She has gone on to appear in the IBMA Songwriter Showcase twice and perform with artists such as David Bromberg, Lucy Kaplansky, Livingston Taylor, and Steve Forbert. Andy Huenererberg is a much in demand bass player who has worked as a banjo and guitar player, recording engineer and professional choral singer in addition to his work on the bass. <itunes:summary>Nov 5, 2008: Dean Fields - Originally from Mechanicsville, Virginia, Dean Fields was discovered by The Miami Heraldrsquo;s Evelyn McDonnell at a songwriting event in Florida. ldquo;Go, so you can say you saw him when, rdquo; She wrote in the Miami Herald, ldquo; He sings with the tender high tenor of Tim Buckley and the plain-spoken poetry of Jim Croce." He was soon named ldquo;Best of Miamirdquo; by local press, picked to play at the premier of Billboard Live, bailed on graduate school and dedicated himself to performing and writing. ldquo;I just woke up one day and said, lsquo;screw this, all I want to do is play music.rdquo; Songs on the Mend, the latest solo acoustic release was written in bars, venues, and hotels while on tour performing over 500 shows since hitting the road in 2003. The 10 songs capture the raw honest expression of a young artist on the rise. Columbiarsquo;s Free Times agrees, "Dean Fields writes lyrics like Leonard Cohen and sings like Jeff Buckley. Itrsquo;s no surprise that therersquo;s a serious buzz on this Virginia singer-songwriter" Fields is fueled by a single-minded passion to play sharing the stage with Bruce Hornsby, Hootie and the Blowfish, KT Tunstall, Julie Roberts, Cake, Ingram Hill, Josh Kelley, John Hiatt, Aqualung and many others. <itunes:summary>Chris Cubeta and The Liars Club - is a brash, Americana rock band from Brooklyn led by compelling and charismatic frontman Chris Cubeta - a relentless songwriter whose lyrics combine nuance-soaked imagery with incisive observations. The bandrsquo;s sound is equally eclectic, combining the wispy, sensitivity of the singer/songwriter with the unbridled thrill of rock and roll. Fresh off their first-ever residency at The Living Room in June of 2008 as well as a packed Saturday night summer gig at Mercury Lounge, The Liars Club is ready to take off. Time Out New York calls The Liars Club ldquo; a sturdy, passionate, local roots-rock quartet.rdquo; In addition to being an accomplished and versatile musician, Cubeta is also a skilled solo performer who has opened several times for Chris Trapper (formerly of The Pushstars). A longtime resident of upstate New York, Chris moved to Brooklyn in 2005 and the band has since played prime slots at some of the city's most prestigious rooms ndash; Pianos, The Bitter End, Trash, The Delancey, Crash Mansion and Rockwood Music Hall to name a few. <itunes:summary>Sheri Miller - Born in a musical household in Long Island, New York, Sheri Miller grew up listening to her mother, an opera singer belt out beautiful arias in the night, while playing classical Debussy piano. She began to sing with a local Philly blues band, while secretly sculpting her own songs. After college, Sheri moved back to New York to Park Slope, Brooklyn, and made steady rounds at local open mics like The Raven, while practicing her acoustic guitar and keyboard for hours in her basement apartment. She immersed herself in the poetry of Charles Bukowski, O. Henri, Marcel Proust, Margaret Atwood and Maya Angelou.nbsp; She melted into Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles, classical music, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Otis Redding and Billie Holiday. Brimming with inspiration, Sheri developed her own sensual soundscape of hypnotic bluesy American soul meets classic British melodic-pop, bringing it to the stages of The Bowery Ballroom, Joe's Pub, World Cafe Live, The Bluebird Cafe, The Canal Room and The Living Room. She has had a song featured on the Songwriterrsquo;s Hall of Fame Compilation, Volume 4. For more, go to www.sherimiller.com.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Andrew Fortier became a carpenter and developed a personal creative style that became highly sought after by people who cherished a romanticism of an era that so long ago was watered down by mass merchants of nostalgia who did not truly have a 'feel' for authenticity. This special and unique creative ability is felt by those who know Andrew's music. His musical creations are wondrous journeys into days gone by. He creates his music on a boat, a 1938 cabin cruiser which also contains his recording studio. For the past 10 years Andrew has recorded albums for Giant/Warner Brothers and Chrysalis records. The A#38;R reps who signed Andrew also discovered such talents as Tracy Chapman and Michelle Shocked. Like many artists who felt constrained by the 'corporate' nature of the new record business, Andrew decided to record his new album Come On Home and release it himself. <itunes:summary>Gretchen Witt grew up aahwl-sweet-n-peachy in the nice countryside of Ohio before moving at age 18 to the barbarous streets of New York City.nbsp; Compelled to perform original material, she decided to re-route her knack for performance towards song-writing. She has studied classical piano for eight years, has recently taken up the guitar, and has sung under her breath (to the annoyance of nearby others) all of her life. No one has yet, since this joyous departure into song-writing, been able to pull her away from the strings, the keys, or lyric-inspiring pencil set. Her first publication is now out: a 5-track EP! Her vocal style is frequently compared to that of Alison Krauss, Natalie Merchant, and Tracy Chapman, however her style remains unique. The lyrics of each song have been widely agreed upon as the cornerstone of her work. For more, go to http://www.gretchenwitt.com.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Ron Renninger - Self taught at age 15, Ron soon formed the first band to be signed to the newly formed SIRE records. Dividing his time between Woodstock NY, Manhattan and Northern California, Ron added to his musical experiences by rubbing elbows and jamming with such greats as David Bromberg, Jorma Kaukonen, Doc Watson, Taj Mahal, Chuck Berry, Santana and Jimi Hendrix. Moving on to recording, he became a sought-after session guitarist on New York's highly competitive recording circuit. Ron's quest for a more acoustic sound led him to the Green Mountains of Vermont where he performed with folk-rock groups such as the popular Willow. It was during this period that he began honing his distinctive singing and song writing skills. For more, go to http://ronrenninger.com.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Lucky 13 - To promote the 13th successful year of their independent label, Sonic Underground, Long Island artists Cathy Kreger, Marci Geller and Susan DeVita decided to release a compilation CD entitled, "Lucky 13". The release was so well received that they went on the road with it. Fans from across the Island have agreed, this trio features some of the strongest and most talented female vocalists Long Island has to offer. And together, they achieve a harmonic quality transcending each of their individual unique vocal strengths. WVKR FM says; "I just received Lucky 13 and I love it." and The Improper adds "...Really, really brilliant. It harkens back to the day of the great female songwriters Carly Simon, Carole King #38; Joni Mitchell" For more go to http://sonicunderground.com/L13.htm . <itunes:summary>Matthew Dorrien is a 25-year-old, Long Island born, singer songwriter, raised in Valencia, California, who writes and performs music from his heart. nbsp; With melodies that drift like snowflakes through winter pines, and words that cut straight to your soul with simple poetic loveliness, Matt's music reveals nothing less than the work of a present day bard. And not surprisingly with a list of inspirers that include The Beatles, Elliott Smith, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and the writings of Robert Frost. Matthew Dorrien performs regularly in New York, where he presently resides, and tours the U.S., often playing songwriter festivals and showcases. He has just recently returned from Nashville where he was invited to perform at the 2008 Nashville Songwriter's Festival. Matt is currently recording a new record that will be released by the end of this year. nbsp; For more, go tonbsp;www.myspace.com/missingmanchester. <itunes:summary>Wielding a voice that defies the size of her body and strong storytelling sensibilities, Emilia Dahlin has carved out her name as a unique songstress. She weaves mesmerizing tales (complete with Greek myths, robotic messiahs, epic floods, and tax evaders) with raw, rootsy folk and dynamic jazz vocals. Her well-crafted songs sound as if they've been left outside where time and weather have worn cracks for the wind to whip through.nbsp;Emilia still resides in Portland, Maine where she was voted "Best Singer/Songwriter of 2006" and "Best Female Vocalist of 2005/2006". Her highlight of 2005 was being selected as a finalist in the NEMO Songwriting Competition out of the 1,800 submissions. Her highlight of 2006 was being named a finalist in the Telluride Bluegrass Festival's Troubadour Competition. Emilia has also showcased at NEMO (2005) and at the National Association for Campus Activities regional conferences in Boston and Cedar Rapids. For more, go tonbsp;www.myspace.com/emiliadahlinmusic. <itunes:summary>In anticipation of our upcoming format change to three featured artists and no open mic, we decided to create the open-mic-to-end-all-open-mics. And WOW -- listen to over two hours of original music from the artists you've come to know and love, and, as usual, some fresh faces: Paul Geng, Mark DiCarlo, Paul Matt, Edwina, Frankie Harte with Kevin and Brian, Nick Conforti, Christy Baker, Martini Garden, Dave Dircks with Scott Goldstein, Andrew White and Jon Preddice, Bob K, Mike Maclain, Karl Blessing, Corey Balsamo, Richard Cashman with our unofficial official photographer Analisa Turturro on trombone, Matthew Knott, Lois Morton, Jean-Paul Vest with Jon Preddice, Claudia Jacobs, Tim Dillon, Jeff Jacobs, John Flor ,Tommy Santoriello and Jon Preddice with Krista Preddice and John Flor. Phew!

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the incredible artists who've shared there talents and dreams with the audience at ALI for the past three years -- it's been wonderful to see the growth of a little music community around this thing. Keep listening and watching as we continue to evolve, and remember that next summer we'll be bringing the open mic back for the season. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

<itunes:summary>Raised in a musical family (parents are Carly Simon and James Taylor), lead singer/songwriter Ben Taylor was immersed in music from an early age. Taylor explains, "My first memory's of music blend in with the rest of my senses. I can remember attending the concerts and studio sessions of every one from Carol King to Foreigner by the time I was 7 years old. Nearly everyone I have ever looked up to and have ever known has been a professional musician." Surprisingly, Taylor didn't originally set his sights on a music career. Having traveled extensively all over the globe, from Tibet to the Darien Rain forest, he developed a fierce love for nature. "Up until that point I wanted to be a farmer or a gardener," Ideally, what I want to write about are things that have relevance not just in my life but in a universal sense as well. That's the power of music: to move, to motivate, to make you ask 'What if?' or 'Why?' I think that music should give voice to people's emotions." The Ben Taylor Band's sound is genre defying as friend and drummer, Larry Ciancia explains, "It's extremely difficult to categorize our sound: it's part pop, part rock-and-roll, part folk. But honestly, it's like nothing I've been hearing out there lately-which is either a very good or a very bad thing." Taylor adds, "I couldn't be more proud to sound like either of my parents, physically or stylistically, this is who I am. But I am a different guy and I write different music." <itunes:summary>John Schmittrsquo;s honest approach to writing and performing music is a direct reflection of his experience growing up in Buffalo, NY and his deep connection to the people that live there. ldquo;Itrsquo;s a place thatrsquo;s trying to fit into the new world. It cherishes little things, small advances, and emphasizes familyhellip; it works hard, and faces social and political adversity as they try to thrive.rdquo; A self-taught musician, John began writing music and learning to play his favorite songs by ear at age 16. One year later, John began performing in local coffee shops and open mics. After several years of recording and performing with various bands, John pursued a solo career in music, releasing The Musical EP and now his first full length CD, John Schmitt. <itunes:summary>Rachel Griffin, based in Portland, Maine, has always been a natural performer. Rachel began performing in the musical theater at age seven, appearing in venues throughout the state. In March of 2003, Rachel Griffin released her first independent CD, "Let It Go," a collection of fourteen original songs performed with full band. Rachel received rave reviews for her CD and live performances. The Portland Press Herald stated, "Rachel Griffin, at the ripe old age of 20, is putting out music like a veteran. She calls it 'jazz influenced pop.' I call it better than Norah Jones." Rachel Griffin has continued to be a prolific songwriter, and in March 2004 she released her sophomore album, "I'm Up to No Good." In reviewing the album, The Portland Phoenix wrote, "her vocal abilities continue to progress to the point where, on pure vocal talent (range, delivery, projection) she's likely among the top five local female singers, with people like Carol Noonan and Sara Cox" and described the title track as "scrumptious. Rachel's songwriting skills have not gone unnoticed. Rachel won 2nd place in American Idol Underground's pop songwriting competition for her song "Alone". The contest was judged by Verdine White (from Earth, Wind and Fire), Preston Glass, and Kimberly Caldwell. Rachel made it to the semi-finals in the NEMO songwriting competition with her song, "He Skipped Work". She made is to the semi-finals in the Disc Makers Independent Music World Series 2006. <itunes:summary>Andy Mac is an artist yoursquo;ll want to listen to. It takes a true gift to create such sleek musical synthesis. He's a virtuoso in the art of putting all the right musical pieces, in all the right places. In their career, every songwriter wishes to attain such melodic appeal that Mac has so easily achieved. Originality, even within his own musical niche is perhaps what makes him so great. Each song has a new stylistic addition or change that makes each track interesting, building Macrsquo;s repertoire into a single morphing entity rather than a list of formulated tracks. There are thousands of songwriters that can concoct memorable hooks and chorus lines and while Mac achieves this, he also goes beyond. For more go to www.myspace.com/andymac. <itunes:summary>Laura Veltz showed up one night at the Acoustic Long Island open mic portion of the show, and performed "Katarina." We instantly thought: "she's GOT to be a feature" -- and when you listen to this live performance, you'll see why. Laura's got a pristine voice with shades of retro, totally top songwriting skills, and that unmistakeable "it" that makes you believe her upcoming move to Nashville is a darn smart idea. Accompanied by her sister Allison, a pro musician in her own right, tonight's performance is a keeper!

Laura shaped her musical expression through a colorful career touring the US and recording with her family band, former Atlantic Recording artists, The Veltz Family (TheVeltzFamily.com). Her infectious songwriting and vocal prowess is an asset to the band, as well as her solo pursuits. Laurarsquo;s passion is songwriting, and in addition to her own performance of her music, she is currently pursuing other artists to perform her songs. For more information on Laura, visit www.LauraVeltz.com. Acoustic Podcast recorded live at Acoustic Long Island, July 23, 2008. </itunes:summary>

It was a very interesting and special night at the mansion, with some really great lyrics floating through the air - including Paul Jay's yearning for dreams and love in "Backhoe," John Flor's strange and wonderful love song "Bed of Nails," And Matt Dorien's painfully simply lyric "...you can kiss me all that you like... and if you break my heart, it's all right." <itunes:summary>Dana Edelman started playing guitar in high school and passionately writing and composing in college. He honed his chops throughout college, graduated from SUNY Purchase, and moved to Martharsquo;s Vineyard for post-graduate performing at the famed Wintertide Coffeehouse. 1996 saw the release of Danarsquo;s ldquo;Bedouin Manrdquo; CD, which received regular airplay on Boston radio. In 1997 Dana followed the airwaves to Boston and made it his base for touring the Northeast acoustic circuit. Douglas Sloan wrote in Metronome Magazine: ldquo;Jangling rhythms driven by crackling acoustic guitar, Edelmanrsquo;s trademark wah-wah guitar riffs, and James Taylor-esque vocals, make for one great sounding albumhellip;each musician gives a piece of their soul to this outstanding effort that could net Edelman a Boston Music Award and more. Outstanding!rdquo; Dana was signed to Segue Records in 2004 and released lsquo;Mile 23rsquo; in 2006. For more go to www.myspace.com/danaedelman.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>You should've seen the jaws dropping and the necks craning to check out 10-year-old Jonathan Bodian play the classical guitar at the mansion tonight. As Dave said, you sort of can't believe it even while your seeing it. Bravo, Jonathan! And if you thought that was the only highlight, wait - this is one of those "I-can't-believe-the-talent-coming-to-this-thing" nights, with Harry Tucker, Craig Shay, Julian David, Chris Foley, John Flor, and Martha Trachtenberg. <itunes:summary>Well, against all the odds, the weather held out and the Acoustic Long Island 3rd Annual Summer Concert was a blast. Over a thousand people chanced the rains to see some of the best modern acoustic music around today.

Our fourth featured artist: Vance Gilbert - Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90's when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-jazz singer who was knocking 'em dead at open mikes. The word spread of this Philadelphia-area born and raised performer to New York; Shawn Colvin invited Vance Gilbert to be special guest on her Fat City tour. Gilbert took audiences across the country by storm ("With the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god, it was enough to earn him that rarity: an encore for an opener" wrote the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in it's review of a show from that tour). Gilbert's three albums for the Rounder/Philo label - EDGEWISE (1994), FUGITIVES (1995), and the celebrated, arrestingly sparse SHAKING OFF GRAVITY (1998) - are all essential additions to the American singer-songwriter collection. With guests as varied as Tuck and
Patti, Jonatha Brooke, Patty Larkin, Dee Carstensen, Vinx, and Jane Siberry, all three albums found significant niches on NAC (New Adult Contemporary) and Non-Commercial A3 (Adult Album Alternative) radio. These discs were followed by the self released SOMERVILLE LIVE (2000), his live recording lionized by the Boston Globe as the disc "young songwriters should study the way law students cram for bar exams", and ONE THRU FOURTEEN (2002), a stylistically varied tour de force that New York's Town and Village calls "lively, eclectic, electrifying and transcending.rdquo; Follow that with SIDE OF THE ROAD (2003), a duo album with Ellis Paul, lauded as ldquo;haunting, artful, and lovely" by Boston Magazine and nominated for a 2004 Boston Music Award.
UNFAMILIAR MOON stands as a most impressive cap to this discography. This is Vance Gilbert at his most fearless, timeless, compelling best. These examples of classic songwriting, presented with deep humanism and bravery, stunning artistry and soul, and unbridled joy are inarguably the blue ribbons that tie and seal the seemingly impossibly package that is... Vance Gilbert. Get even more at www.vancegilbert.com.

Our third featured artists: The Chapin Sisters - The Chapin Sisters, Abigail Chapin, Lily Chapin and Jessica Craven, are three actual sisters who live and play music in Los Angeles. Upon hearing the first notes of one of their shows or recordings, it becomes obvious that the Chapins have the sort of tight, celestial harmony that only sisters can achieve. The Chapin Sistersrsquo; lilting voices, lush arrangements and lovely melodies are wedded to dark lyrical content. Their words are sometimes cheeky, sometime utterly forlorn. Their EP of demos recorded in friendsrsquo; basements and garages has been a CDBaby top seller, and the Lake Bottom LP , their full- length debut was released by Plain Recordings in March of 2008. ldquo; The one virtue LA trio the Chapin Sisters shares with classic sister acts of old becomes apparent when they sing together: that shiver of spotless, familial unity that makes every syllable woundingly poignant.rdquo; - FLAVORPILL San Francisco. First up: Miller\'s Crossing - Millerrsquo;s Crossing is a bluegrass band based out of Long Island, New York. The band was formed in November 2004 by Chris Maloy, Ronnie Feinberg, Marjorie Kelting, and Patrick Falco. Millerrsquo;s Crossing prides itself on the original material each member brings to the bandrsquo;s repertoire. They strive to play bluegrass music the way they feel it, and the result is a fresh outlook on the music while not getting too far away from its roots. A premier release of the CD ldquo;Adirondack Railrdquo;, by Marjorie Kelting and Ronnie Feinberg, is an example of some of the material performed by Millerrsquo;s Crossing. ldquo;Solid traditional and original bluegrass from a band living on Long Island? Better believe it! Millerrsquo;s Crossingrsquo;s talented musicians, singers, and composers rival any bluegrass band in the Appalachians. The Empire State is proud to have them!rdquo; - Bill Knowlton, ldquo;Bluegrass Ramblerdquo;. WCNY, Syracuse, Utica, Watertown, NY. More on Miller\'s Crossing at www.millerscrossingbluegrass.com.

<itunes:summary>Energetic, Evocative and Funky Solo Acoustic Guitar. Original Compositions as well as arrangements of well known songs by Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Bill Withers and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Adam was born and raised in Harlem. He was mugged in front of his building when he was 10. He played in a hard rock band at 12, got ripped off by a club owner on his first gig at 15, and by 18 he was a rapper on a gold record in overseas. That's callled "paying dues" - and you hear it in his songs, in his feeling for the blues, in his groove, in his touch. The history and life experience puts the fire in this man's music. He puts the "sizzle" in the "steak" musically speaking. For more go to www.myspace.com/adamraffertytrio.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Bess is a compelling performer with nothing but a guitar; she impressed people for years with her wonderful songs and her beautiful, silky voice. What's impressive about Decisionshellip; is its ability to straddle genre-lines and to throw in more instruments than you find in a high-school band without ever veering towards the muddled or confused. Where else would you find an accordion and a banjolele on a record filled with endless 'ba da da's and accessible lyrics that beg you to dig a little deeper? Bess' songs run the gamut from strange and waltzy to alt-country to brooding folk to twee pop, sometimes in the space of a single song. The only constant is Bess' obvious gift for melody, her luxurious, sultry, or sweet voice (depending on the moment), and Romer's stellar production. <itunes:summary>Gregory Douglass\' passionate amalgamation of contemporary folk, pop, and rock has been compared to Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley and Patty Griffin. With six critically acclaimed, independent CDs under his belt, the 27-year old Vermont native evokes the songwriting skills of an \"old soul\" and \"the voice of an angel\" (Seven Days). Douglassrsquo; numerous accolades include being a finalist for both the 2005 International Songwriting Competition and 2004 Independent Music Awards; and winner of the 2003 GrammyFest in New York City, as well as being the inaugural performer on the American Red Cross 2003 \"Save A Life Tour.rdquo; Douglass has toured with They Might Be Giants, and has shared the stage with India Arie, Melissa Ferrick, Jason Mraz, and Catie Curtis to name a few. Instinct Magazine says that Douglassrsquo; sixth and newest album Up Away ldquo;channels everyone from Stevie Wonder to Fiona Apple in a way that\'s terrifyingly mature for someone so young.\" For more go to www.myspace.com/gregorydouglass.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Songwriting is serious business. So to keep things from getting too heavy, Dave injected a bit of useless trivia into the evening - much to the enjoyment of our "hungry-for-useless-trivia" audience. Somewhere in between baseball facts and key moments in US History, we heard a truly tasty set from Rob Kurtz with Tom Meyer, Ryan Schilling, Craig Shay, Martini Graden, Mikey Way, Mike Jason and Martha Trachtenberg. Here's hoping the experience is as expansive for you as it was for us. Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Known for lending his guitar skills to several touring and recording acts including the Jonah Smith Band, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble and Les Nubians among others (see below), Andy Stack shows that there is much more to him than his spunky guitar playing on his new EP "Don't Stop". Recorded with long-time collaborator Jesse Kolber in a home studio in upstate NY, Andy showcases his talents as a singer/songwriter and multi-istrumentalist on this new collection of 5 new tracks. Andy plays most of the instruments on the record but left room for a few notable guests here and there including drummer Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright), singer/songwriter/pianist Jonah Smith on piano, Thad Debrock (Ari Hest, Spring Awakening) on electric guitar, and fellow singer/songwriter friends Jesse kolber, Greg Fine and Maryanne Marino singing background vocals. <itunes:summary>Andy Shelton flew into New York just to play for Acoustic Long Island, and boy, his arms are tired (his joke, not ours, I swear). He's yet another amazing artist we've had from Utah (the others are Stephanie Smith and Deborah Fotheringham) -- arriving here with a guitar case full of stories and a voice that is simply perfect.

Shelton's percussive acoustic jazz/folk style is well complimented by his "Unique, strong voice" (Taxi.com) and award winning story-like lyrics (lyricawards.com). This 2007 Best of State Nominee has also received an honorable mention in the 12th annual Billboard Songwriting Contest, 1st place awards on www.LyricAwards.com and www.comp10.com, and recent Honor Award in the 7th Annual Great American Song Contest. As a solo artist, Andy has made concert appearances on Fox 13`s Good Day Utah, ldquo;B all over with Michael Brdquo; on KJAZZ 14, channel 4`s Good Things Utah where he placed 2nd in the `Utah`s Next` competition, and The NuSkin World of Ice venue at the 2002 Winter Olympics. His music has been featured on the television programs ldquo; Not on the First Daterdquo;and ldquo;Mountain Viewsrdquo;. This last Feburary, his current project entitled ldquo;Up On Market Streetrdquo; was release to rave reviews from the local press. Event News Weekly calls his music ldquo;hellip;Possibly the best written in the state.rdquo; And Mike Rosskelly of Rosskelly Sound says ldquo;Itrsquo;s the best CD Irsquo;ve heard all yearrdquo; For more go to www.andyshelton.com.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>David Celia dashed on to the Acoustic Long Island stage just 10 minutes before his set...</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>David Celia dashed on to the Acoustic Long Island stage just 10 minutes before his set, driving all the way from Toronto non-stop (except a side trip to pick up his guitar!). Whew! Definitely our closest call yet -- but man, was it worth the wait. A world class musician who has played for audiences all over the Europe, U.S.A. and Canada, Celia\'s music has been described as \"roots-rock with hints of folk wrapped up in a pop package\". Flawless 3 and 4 part harmonies are usually the first thing that audiences are drawn to in the live set but ultimately it\'s the songwriting that gives the music a timeless feel. David has received plenty of radio play on CBC Radio in Canada as well as on the BBC in the UK, featured \"live in studio\" recently on Radio2\'s highly regarded Bob Harris Show. In July \'07, David played Canada\'s historic Mariposa Festival(before Gordon Lightfoot). He also recently played Larmertree Festival in Wiltshire, England and Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne opening for Elvis Costello and Badly Drawn Boy. Find out more at myspace.com/davidcelia. ALI factoid: Celia is our very first performer to bring a kazoo on stage, and incredibly, plays it like a serious instrument. Bravo!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Listen in for one of the sweetest-sounding voices we've heard in a long time - Liz Longley. A captivating set and a double standing ovation left no doubt why her music's been praised as ldquo;Gorgeousrdquo; by Ani Defranco. And Internet listeners agree. Liz was voted the No. 1 all-time female vocalist in Garageband.comrsquo;s acoustic category in May of 2006. Lizrsquo;s first recordings caught the attention of WC Handy award winner, Jim Tullio. Separated by a generation in age, the two songwriters teamed-up to write the internet smash, ldquo;Naked Treesrdquo;. The song became the No. 1 all-time song (amid 3,400 songs) in Garageband.comrsquo;s acoustic S/S category in rsquo;06. Her solo songwriting is garnering praise as well. Liz will be accompanied by guitar talent Sarah Zimmermann. The two team-up for engaging vocal harmonies and a rapport with audiences that is filling coffeehouses and venues throughout the region. Liz has performed at the Philly Folkfest, Club Passimrsquo;s in Boston, Tupelo Hall in New Hampshire, Phillyrsquo;s World Cafeacute;, Chaplinrsquo;s and the Steel City Coffeehouse. <itunes:summary>Get ready for a singular event: Richard Cashman's stream-of-consciousness Beatles rock opera! It's meandering, hilarious, and actually a very nice tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time. And that's not all - tonight you'll be hearing from Mike Maclain, Jen Morrison, Hank Stone, Jean-Paul Vest (pictured here, with a new album out - congratulations!), and "The Closer," Martha Trachtenberg. Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Banjo and all, we got a taste of Kentucky at the mansion, thanks to Michael Johnathon. Though he spent his early years on Long Island, Michael settled into Kentucky where he traveled up and down the hollers of the Appalachian mountains knocking on doors and learning the music of the mountain people. He experienced hundreds of front porch hootenannies throughout Appalachia where folks would pull out their banjos and fiddles, sit on their front porches with him and play the old songs that their grandparents taught them. And so, it was there that he created and to this day hosts the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, with a worldwide radio audience approaching a million listeners each week. Billboard Magazine headlined him as an \"UnSung Hero.\" He has been featured on CNN, TNN, CMT, AP, Headline News, NPR, Bravo and the BBC. For more, go to www.michaeljohnathon.com.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>With our feature artist coming from Kentucky's Appalachian Mountains, Dave felt the need to give the audience a taste of Kentucky (ie: fun factoids). It certainly flavored the evening as we heard performances by Dave Dircks himself, singing his "Kentucky Blues", Antonio DiMarco, Cory Balsamo, Cole Verderber and Martha Trachtenberg. Can you smell the Southern-fried Catfish?</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>It was just Jesse and his guitar on the stage, but the mansion was filled with the incredible, toe-tapping sounds of this rising star from Boston. Within a year of graduating Berklee College of Music, Jesse had sold out venues across the Northeast including the Paradise Lounge, The Bitter End and World Cafe Live, and done a live performance for 1.5 million listeners on Chicagorsquo;s KISSFM. Jessersquo;s material reflects his powerful and innate ability to relate his own life to the lives of those around him, creating an unusually personal experience for his listeners. With the recent release of his first album, Jessersquo;s writing is innovative, honest, and ready to be heard. Find out more at www.jesseruben.com.</itunes:summary>
