Rory Sullivan – Rory Sullivan & The Second Season is a New York City based band playing an infectious blend of progressive folk with pop sensibility and a country flair. Micah – Micah is an up and coming singer-songwriter originally from Rochester, NY. He spent the last four years living in Boston, while receiving a bachelor’s degree in Music Business from Northeastern University in May of 2010. Singing and playing music since he was just a child, Micah has grown significantly in his abilities. Since he was 16 years old he’s been steadily gigging, starting off in the coffeehouse scene and most recently headlining shows at clubs and colleges throughout the country, spanning from the East and West Coast as well as the South and Mid-West. Currently, Micah has two albums in his discography, his debut self titled ‘Micah EP’, and the second, a full length album titled ‘Coast To Coast’; released early July 2010 (both are available on iTunes). Micah just recently completed successful Fall and Spring national independently funded and booked tours and wants to build momentum and continue touring extensively. Flearoy – Although they’ve immersed themselves in the second-line music of New Orleans, the raw soul of Stax, the finely crafted tunes of The Band, and spent their years listening to the field recordings of Leadbelly and the Lomax family, instrumental B-sides of the James Brown Band and The Meters, they also grew up during the hey-day of Destiny’s Child and The Spin Doctors. And, strangely enough, all of these influences find their way into Flearoy’s fresh blend of funk-folk. Nate & Kate – Nate & Kate met and began playing together in Binghamton, NY in 2005, and self-booked a 3-month tour of the Eastern-US that fall (’05). They have continued touring, promoting, and writing, and released their debut album, FAME BY FRAME, late in 2007. FAME BY FRAME has garnered strong reviews, regular Central-NY radio airplay, and was ranked amongst the “top 25 indie CD’s in the first half of 2008” by Wildysworld Blog. In 2009 the duo played over 150 shows, and organized an “Eat Local Tour” of NY State farmers markets which garnered significant press. Adam Levy – Adam Levy is perhaps best known for his tenure as the featured guitarist in Norah Jones’ Handsome Band (2001–2007). He played on her breakout 2002 CD ‘Come Away with Me’ and her next two albums as well. Levy has been onstage and/or in the studio with Rosanne Cash, Amos Lee, M. Ward, and up-and-coming Aussie artist Eran James. In addition to Levy’s skills as a player, he is a gifted songwriter. Miles to Dayton – With a well-crafted mix of folk, rock, classical and funk, this Long Island based ensemble brings an honest message of love, life and laughter to each performance. The M2D recipe is simple: four-part vocal harmony textures, solid songwriting, improvisational violin and cello, and an infectious rhythm section that stirs up the creative stew. The band features the talents of vocalist Krista (March) Preddice, often compared to the likes of Natalie Merchant and Dolores O’Riordan. Accomplished songwriter Jonathan Preddice also shares lead vocal duty, and plays guitar and cello in the band. Dave March adds to the package by delivering pocket bass lines and heartfelt vocals. Violinist Leanne (Preddice) Strom wields her violin with extreme presence and maturity, using her classical upbringing to add many interesting colors and textures to the m2d ensemble. Nini and Ben – Two sixteen year olds were en route to a birthday party, and realized they didn’t have a gift. “Let’s write him a song,” they thought. Unbeknownst to them, that afternoon sparked a partnership between two songwriters who would fall in love with each other, and the gypsy lifestyle they were bound to lead. Waking up in a ragged old VW bus. Performing at clubs and cafes. Writing songs on acoustic guitars and Wurlitzers. This simple and unpredictable way of living has yielded the most profound moments of their lives that are captured in their warm and expressive songs. The duo have spent years performing all over the U.S., Europe and Australia. Nini+Ben were selected out of 400 acts to be featured on the Heavy Rotation Records compilation, which debuted to a sold out crowd of 1,200 at the Berklee Performance Center in 2009. Reed Waddle – Waddle is a hard working touring musician. In the past two months he has opened concerts for Hall and Oates,The All American Rejects,The Wailers, Edie Carey and Katie Herzig. In support of his new release he commpleted a 15 state 28 city six week eastern seaboard tour in October/ November 2008. For the past three years he has played over 300 shows annually, mostly in his northwest Florida home, but stretching from Idaho to Boston and the Rocky Mountains while constantly writing and recording. His new release was recorded mostly in Aspen, Colorado, produced by Jamie Rosenberg and joined by multi-platinum pop icon John Oates on several tracks. In October of 2008, Two new songs were added in rotation for four months on XM Radio’s “The Loft” and his single “The Beast Within” played on AAA stations across the country. Past career achievements include his song “I Saw Stars” selected from over 25,000 entrants as one of 20 finalists on American Idol’s inaugural American Idol Songwriter competition in 2007. Jeff LeBlanc – In early 2006, LeBlanc released his first four track demo entitled “Stories From a Small Town”. The album featured songs he wrote and recorded in his Sacred Heart University dorm room. In late 2006, he began touring colleges and venues on weekends while he continued to complete his college degree. In 2008, Jeff was voted to showcase at the National Association for Campus Activities Northeast Conference by over 850 college talent buyers in Hartford, Connecticut. He again achieved this feat in October 2009 at the National Association for Campus Activities Mid-Atlantic Conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. These showcases helped springboard a headlining tour of over 40 colleges and universities throughout the east coast. Rebecca Jordan – Just nominated for Best EP by the Independent Music Awards for her Souvenir EP, Rebecca Jordan is a Brooklyn based singer-songwriter on the rise. She was a 2010 Mountain Stage NewSong Finalist and was honored with the 2010 Abe Olman Award from the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame as a promising songwriter. Rebecca grew up in Ohio listening to Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, John Coltrane, Joao Gilberto, gospel quartets, The Cure, and Tom Petty. She studied classical piano as a kid and taught herself guitar to write songs. A development deal with a major record label helped her song “Beautiful Disaster” find it’s way to Kelly Clarkson who has recorded it on two albums. Songwriters like Adam Duritz and Thom Yorke made him realize that the immeasurable feeling in poetry equates fulfillment. Rachel Griffin – A native of in Portland, Maine, Rachel Griffin now calls New York City her home. Rachel began performing in the musical theater at age seven, appearing in venues throughout Maine. In March of 2003, she released her first independent CD, “Let It Go,” receiving rave reviews for her CD and live performances. The Portland Press Herald stated, “Rachel Griffin, at the ripe old age of 20, is putting out music like a veteran. Stephanie Nilles is an independent musician constantly on the move. At 17, she was a finalist at the Young Concert Artists’ International Competition. At 22, she had graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a BM in classical piano performance. These days, she’s performing her own politically-influenced jazz/folk tunes, described by listeners as “Ella Fitzgerald on speed beating the @#%* out of Regina Spektor” and “Tom Waits on helium,” in her adopted home base of New York City and out on the road in a hatchback with a Roland. She has performed at joints like Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, WFMT’s “Live from Studio One,” and the Dame Myra Hess Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, and she has collaborated with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Joel Newton, and Christian Howes, in styles ranging from free improv to burlesque accompaniment. Idgy Vaughn – Idgy was born in Chillicothe, Missouri (“The Home of Sliced Bread”), to a non-musical hog farming family on the same day that Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. Her folks lost their farm and moved to a Mississippi River town. Idgy taught herself to play guitar and became the only songwriter she knew. In 2001, she packed up her small daughter and, sight unseen, moved to Austin, Texas, buoyed by a tax refund check and a bunch of songs nobody ever heard. A single mother and new to the scene in “The Live Music Capitol of the World,” Idgy got by waitressing at a truckstop a few miles south of town until a customer won the lottery and loaned her just enough to make her first record. A second stroke of luck came when she won the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition. Her debut album, ORIGIN STORY, was recorded entirely in Austin with a dream team of all-star musicians. It garnered an amazing critical response in Great Britain and the U.S., as well as nominations for Album of the Year, Producer of the Year for Paul Pearcy, and Best New Band at the 2006 Austin Music Awards. The album spent 11 weeks on the national Americana chart, peaking at 32, with the unique distinction of being the only self-released record on the chart at the time. National Public Radio made “Good Enough” their Song of the Day. ORIGIN STORY was on the much-coveted “best of the year” lists by Austin NPR affiliate KUT’s David Brown, the Austin Chronicle’s longtime music writer Margaret Moser, and many, many others. Chris Ayer got his musical start singing along to an Elvis tape when he was 7 in his hometown of McLean, Virginia. He got his first guitar at age 18 and began writing songs that same day. Upon moving to northern California in 2000, he started sharing his songs locally, while studying philosophy and music at Stanford University. After a year out of college spent writing and playing local bar gigs in northern California, Chris decided to hit the road. He got a little room in Brooklyn, but has spent most of the past year traveling town to town, playing for whoever will listen – days spent playing on street corners, nights spent performing on the stages of music clubs and venues of all sorts. His first full-length album, This Is The Place, was recorded in Nashville and produced by Jason Gantt (The Chieftains, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill).

Newland and Miller - Fred Newland and Cliff Miller have been in bands together since Junior High. In the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s after working with Michael Lang of Woodstock fame, and Charlie Colello who did musical arrangements for Barbara Streisand, the Four Seasons and others, they moved on and did some opening gigs for Ronnie Specter, New Riders of the Purple Sage, and Orleans, playing the Long Island original music scene. Marriage, families, and careers intervened but they stayed in touch with their music and recorded a project with Doug Stegmeyer of Billy Joel’s Band as well as some commercial and theme work in television. They continued to write and record but refrained from playing out. Having recently decided to start playing out again, and keeping things acoustic, Fred and Cliff are enjoying playing Long Island’s acoustic venues, “Acoustic Long Island” being their favorite. OK. So we know that tonight is Game 6 of the World Series. It also happens to be Acoustic Long Island’s last concert of 2009. Tough choice, we know. And if we didn’t book this show months in advance, or if Newsday didn’t do a write-up on the concert in this Monday’s paper, we would have certainly considered moving the date to Thursday or next week sometime. But unfortunately, we can’t. So we’re hoping that there are at least a few of you out there who will go against your apple pie instincts and come out for what will be a fantastic night of music. We’ll keep you up-to-date on the score throughout. And the artists featured (Jann Klose and Dan Mills) are among of the finest acts we’ve booked this year. We planned for this to be the year-end concert not to be missed – and then the Yanks had to lose on Monday. Dang! Her songs cover a broad range of topics: love, laughter, family, wisdom, poverty…; “the more you listen, the more you will like what she does” (Green Man Review). Lara was raised in New York and lives in Connecticut. She narrowly escaped law school, training instead as a macro social worker. She has worked in the US, Latin America and Asia, on behalf of disadvantaged individuals – focusing on education, community development, human services, and the environment. She has played at notable venues including A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor (American Public Radio), the Bitter End, CBGBs, Towne Crier, Club Passim, WFUV Under the Radar Concert with John Platt, The Sanctuary Concerts, Minstrel Coffeehouse, Acoustic Café, International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Connecticut Folk Festival, Music for a Change (U. Hartford), WUWF Radio Live Concerts (FL), Fredricksburg (VA) Songwriter Showcase, Folk Music Society of Huntington and Garden Stage (NY), Center for Southern Folklore (TN). She has opened for Patty Larkin, John Gorka, Cheryl Wheeler, Cliff Eberhardt, Vance Gilbert, Ellis Paul, Aztec Two-Step and Eric Anderson, and has shared the stage with the late jazz great Joe Beck, Sloan Wainwright, Mustard’s Retreat, Pat Wictor, and Radoslav Lorkovic, among many others.
